The Boy King
King Tutankhamun was only nine years old when he inherited the throne. He, like many other boys of his age, enjoyed hunting and various sports. As soon as he became king, he wed Ankhesenamun - one of the former king Akhenaten's six daughters. Many people believe Akhenaten is King Tut's father. Only eighteen, after a reign of nine short years, the boy king died of what most believe was a badly infected leg. King Tutankhamun was regarded as an ineffectual pharaoh during his reign and for many years after. However, the unearthing of his tomb by Howard Carter in 1922 revealed many details that gave us much insight into ancient Egyptian culture, life, and most importantly, King Tut himself.
